GETAWAY GUIDE - A STAYCATION IN DETROIT - J+K GETAWAY
So you wanna getaway right... but life's just too busy at the moment for a big getaway. The perfect way to create that feeling of going somewhere is to actually go somewhere but keep it close to home.
We had been craving a night out with a twist so we planned the perfect "getaway" - a staycation. We all have those moments when we need to escape even if its for a night or two. So we headed down to Detroit for a day & night of getting away!
We took a cue of how to plan our staycation from things we would typically do when were out of town. We headed over to the Detroit Institute of Arts for a few hours of being immersed in art and times from long ago. There's a Monet and Church feature going on right now thats totally worth checking out, Church's paintings we're incredibly realistic.
Next we headed down to Campus Martius and right now its so festive with all of the holiday decor! There are these little cute glass houses with different vendors selling tons of goodies for the holiday season. Go check out these but make sure you stop buy our friends house - Open Me When - they have the BEST curated gift boxes - we may also be giving one away very soon! ;) After walking a bit go grab a seat in the lounge and order a drink and chill. Its truthfully like stepping into a Ralph Lauren catalog with all of its coziness! There fireplaces, giant jenga and communal tables to get to know people around you.
The best part of a staycation is exploring areas you haven't been to before. After we spent sometime at Campus Martius we went over to check out all the little shops at Cass Coridor and stopped at New Order Coffee on our way - the hot cocoa with marshmallows is SO GOOD! This area of Midtown was new to us and so fun to explore.
After the day of art and exploring the city we made our way to check in at the Detroit Foundation Hotel. As soon as you step into the lobby you feel that you have been transported back in time to the 1920's. Its luxe and warm and instantly inviting. Check out everything we loved about DFH in our Hotel Hotspot feature here! We got ready for our night out and headed down to the bar of the hotel inside the Apparatus Room restaurant. This bar is so gorgeous with its dancing lights and cozy vibes - the perfect place for a pre-dinner cocktail.
Instead of heading to a restaurant that we have already ate at downtown we decided to try somewhere new and we're blown away by our choice of the night. Grey Ghost offers craft cocktails, delicious eats & a great atmosphere - you can read our full spotlight here!
The next morning we slept in and enjoyed a little room service before heading back home. Truthfully it was a great "getaway" and we decided we need to take more staycations closer to home. Check out our photo gallery & trip video below!
