SEEN MAGAZINE x DETROIT FOUNDATION HOTEL
A few months ago we teased our Detroit Staycation project that we started working on that has been SO much fun for us! It really got our creativeness flowing again and we had the opportunity to work with some really awesome people & companies! We wanted to share our article that was featured in SEEN Magazine - a Detroit based luxury lifestyle magazine with you guys because we know a lot of you are not local so you can't grab the magazine in person.
Take a look at our feature below! - hello creative writing skills! nice to FINALLY use those again ;)
Everywhere you look there is talk about Detroit being the comeback city. The vibrant social scene that is emerging is creating an energy that is very similar to a smaller Chicago, yet still very reminiscent of its roots. Driving down Larned St. past The Joe, you'll find a beautiful building with red bright doors, just begging you to step inside. Detroit's old Fire Department Headquarters is now home to the Detroit Foundation Hotel. It carries a very unique vibe and makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time to the 20s with a modern spin. If you're on the hunt for a great night out or a place to escape for night, this is it.
To feel transported in time is the best way to describe the Detroit Foundation Hotel. As if you're stepping back into the Golden Age, or should we say, the now Golden Age of Detroit. Warm, luxe & sophisticated are the three terms that come to mind when describing every corner. From the inviting lobby with its local brands such as 1701 Bespoke & Detroit Bikes, to being entranced by the comforting woods and marble flooring that escort you to your room.
A sidestep from the lobby you'll be entranced by the lights that dance above the bar of The Apperatus Room - the bar & restaurant of the hotel. It is the perfect night out place to sit back and relax at. Every single table is its own world of coziness, with plush pillows, worn leather benches & natural wood carved tables - you'll be just as hooked on the decor as you will be the incredible food. The open kitchen is also a sight to see. Michelin-star chef Thomas Lents is the man behind the food and let's just say, he knows what he's doing. The menu is by far some of the best food in Detroit. From enticing cocktails to delicious small plates & more, you'll want to try everything. Its the perfect intimate setting to experience the revived Motor City.
After a nightcap at the bar, step into the beautiful gold elevators and head upstairs. Once you enter your room, you'll feel the warm vibes that the rest of the property has, carried throughout each space. Plush fabrics, custom wallpaper and Gatsby themed lighting surround you in a throwback era. The amenities of the hotel are also very different than your typical in-room goodies. Handpicked companies & Detroit based products fill up every part of the room, especially your bar selection. From local sweets from Bon Bon Bon to Le Labo toiletries, you'll be happy you decided to stay a night or two. You're stay doesn't have to end once you wake up, keep your feeling of calm by indulging a little bit. Order room service or head downstairs for breakfast fair that is just as comforting as the rest of the hotel.
The amenities continue with unique experiences offered by DFH that are literally tailored to you. When we say tailored we really do mean it. If you're in the market for a suit, say no more as transportation and a whisky cocktail accompany you to your personalized suit fitting from 1701 Bespoke. Or, if you're feeling a new pair of denim enjoy a trip down to Detroit Denim for a uniquely designed and tailored pair of jeans. These experiences are unlike others around and will leave you with a piece of Detroit to take with you.
The hotel has done a marvelous job of creating a space that demands your attention with all of it's charm. Just picture yourself sitting in the bar cozied up by the fireplace, boozy drink in hand & snow falling outside - it sounds perfect don't you think? So do yourself a favor, stop, take it all in & check in to the Detroit Foundation Hotel.
Along with writing this article about DFH we also got to work with our girl Alora Rachelle who created some BOMB photos for this shoot! She helped us get into the feel we wanted during the summer for a date night in Detroit styled shoot and knew she would be able to keep that same look for this feature. If you need a local photographer you NEED to contact her (aka slide into her DM's ;) fast because she's booking up like crazy! We wanted to work with her because she creates such an awesome asthetic that really tunes into the vibe we wanted to create for this project. Check out our gallery with her below :)
