HOTEL HOTSPOT • HOTEL 71 - J+K GETAWAY
After a 48 hour stay in Montreal, we opted to continue our road trip to a cozier, more relaxed setting. Little did we know heading farther east would only venture us further into the French Canadian culture with little English to be found anywhere. Fortunately, we had our iPhones to guide us but as we continued our trip to Quebec City, the high energy of the city fell behind us and the quaintness of the countryside enveloped us. There isn’t much to look at during the 3 hour ride from Montreal to Quebec City but as your breach the city limits of QC and take in your first look at the St. Lawrence River, you can feel the history that follows you around every corner.
Needless to say, Quebec City truly won our hearts completely over. Its already a destination we want to keep going back to especially the cozy space we stayed at in the middle of it all. As you turn down Rue 71, we found by far one of our most favorite hidden gems to date. The first thing you will notice upon arriving at Hotel 71 is the location. It is in the heart of Old Quebec City which transports you to Europe in the blink of an eye.
Upon walking in you will be greeted by an interior of pops of color and beautiful warm wood. Inviting is the perfect word to describe exactly how you feel once opening the door to the hotel. Even with a bustling entrance full of people, the space still commands a quietness. A space to getaway and relax, whether its for a solo trip, business trip and or a romantic getaway the peacefulness that is throughout the hotel stays with you.
Now let's get to the good stuff, the room! For us there is just something about boutique hotels that is different than chains. Now that isn't so say theres something wrong - just different. Its attention to detail, the warmness & the size.! There is just something about traveling to somewhere new but coming back to a cozy hotel space that just makes it that much better. The rooms at Hotel 71 are one of the coziest we have been lucky enough to stay in.
When you’re walking the streets around Hotel 71, you’ll notice something very different about it’s facade. In comparison to the rest of the neighboorhood, it towers over all of the surrounding buildings and streets. The historic building used to be the headquarters for National Bank of Canada until it was converted to the hotel. It has left each space with lofted ceilings and gorgeous rooms! Every room has stunning views through the most charming windows that you want to curl up and read a book in. Overall the design is very minimal but still has the same warming precense that can be found throughout the rest of the hotel. You'll even find the warm touches in the bathroom with plush robes & L'Occtaine goodies.

Our favorite part of Hotel 71 was definitely the location. Push through the back door and you are a short walk to everything and anything you want to do & see in Old Quebec! We never even hoped in a car or uber once which was a nice change of pace! You are steps away from quaint cafes, museums & scenic areas!
Our perfect day looked something like this...
Slowly wake up & enjoy the warm sun breaching through the windows of the room. Next, get dressed and head out (bundle up if you're going in the winter months like we did!) and visit Place Royal - the most charming little square just a short walk from Hotel 71. Grab a seat at La Maison Smith's window and enjoy a warm coffee or chai and people watch as the square wakes up! Head over to the Musée de la Civilisation directly across from Hotel 71 to spend a day discovering the past and seeing the future of where Canada's culture is headed. Grab a bite to eat at Echaude, right outside the hotel (you truly are close to everything!) for a cozy and romantic dinner. Head back to Hotel 71 for the perfect night cap with their self serve wine or in our case whisky bars.
What are you waiting for...
Thank you to Hotel 71 for hosting us at your beautiful property!
